Providence, R.I. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced today the 2007 Division I Men's and Women's All-Region Cross Country teams. The Providence College men's squad landed five members on the Northeast team while the women earned four members to the All-Northeast Region team. The women's team had the most representatives in the Northeast Region as Michelle Childs (Cameron, Ontario), Katie DiCamillo (Garden City, N.Y.), Danette Doetzel (Macklin, Saskatchewan) and Krystal Douglas (Harpswell, Maine) all finished in the top-25 at the Northeast Regional. Doetzel defeated all competitors at the NCAA Northeast Regional and finished the race with a time of 20:28 to lead the Friar women to a first place finish. DiCamillo placed fourth in the event followed by Douglas in sixth place with times of 20:35 and 20:53, respectively. Childs finished the race in 21:17, good enough to place 16th overall. The men's team also landed the largest group on the Northeast Region team as the Friars tied Iona with five members. Providence placed second out of 34 teams. Senior Max Smith (Dunedin, New Zealand) finished first with a time of 29:58.75. He was followed by teammate Hayden McLaren (Christchurch, New Zealand) as he finished the race in 30:00.95. Also earning All-Northeast Region honors were senior Ahmed Haji (West Hartford, Conn.), freshman David McCarthy (Waterford, Ireland), and junior Richard Yeates (Dublin, Ireland).
The teams will be competing at the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championship on Monday, November 19 in Terre Haute, Ind.
