PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College senior guard Jeff Xavier (Pawtucket, R.I.) will join the Cape Verdean National Team in its quest to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Xavier has dual citizenship (U.S./Cape Verde) as his parents were born in Cape Verde.

Playing in his first season with the Friars after transferring from Manhattan, Xavier led the Friars in scoring (12.4 ppg) and three pointers (76) in 2008. He also led the BIG EAST in steals with 70.

Xavier will leave Rhode Island on Sunday, June 22 for training camp. On July 12, the team will leave for Athens, Greece to prepare for its first game versus New Zealand on July 15. The next day, the team will take on Germany. Three of the 12 teams competing in Greece will qualify for the Summer Olympics.
