Men's Basketball Announces 2008-09 BIG EAST Opponents Providence College announced its 18-game BIG EAST men's basketball home-and away-opponent schedule on Wednesday, July 2. For the second consecutive season, the Friars will face 12 opponents once and three teams twice. Once again, all BIG EAST Conference games will be televised by CBS Sports, the ESPN family of networks or ESPN Regional Television. > Full Story

Jeff Xavier To Play On Cape Verdean National Team Providence College senior guard Jeff Xavier (Pawtucket, R.I.) will join the Cape Verdean National Team in its quest to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Xavier has dual citizenship (U.S./Cape Verde) as his parents were born in Cape Verde. > Full Story

Nellie Poulin And Diane Madl Part Of New England Squad That... Providence College Head Field Hockey coach Diane Madl (Mountaintop, Pa.) and junior forward Nellie Poulin (Oakland, Maine) recently took part in the USA Field Hockey Women's National Championship in Virginia Beach, Va., held June 13-21. Poulin was one of 18 players to earn a spot on the New England roster, while Madl served as an assistant coach. On June 21, Team New England captured the National Championship with a 3-0 victory over Team Midwest. Poulin notched two goals in the tournament, including one tally in the championship game. > Full Story
